Sophie  ...I had an intussusception (and my tummy hurt real bad).
" ...I can't say enough about all of you, please keep up this great thing you do.  You saved Sophie's life.  Thank you for having such an amazing caring staff of people.  God Bless."

"Last summer our nearly 1 year-old Lab mix Sophie began to show signs of a declining appetite.  She had just entered her heat period and not knowing if this was related to that or not we were concerned but focused on her staying cool and hydrated.  We had to leave for a two day out of town trip so she was looked after by my father-in-law, who came over twice a day to feed both dogs. We also have a 7year-old Cocker mix named Bri.  When we came home Sophie's symptoms were the same and I became more aware of her habit of stretching in sort of a bowing motion, flattening her front paws and leaving her hind quarters up high.  She was getting less playful and looked tired.  I took her to Angel Animal Hospital the next day.  I should say I called for the earliest appointment and they took us right away.  I'm not really good at camouflaging my concern!  After a exam Sophie showed no signs of illness and no visible sign of pain.  I expressed my wife's issue and my guilt over the fact that we had neglected to get Sophie spayed earlier.  We were worried that this may be part of her discomfort and lack of appetite.  We waited for blood test results to be sure there were no viruses or infection that were involved and decided we would have her spayed.

I took her in the morning of her surgery and got a call around 11 am, thinking it would be to let me know it was complete.  The fact is they had Sophie on the table and found her problem to be intussusception.  This is when part of the intestine folds in on itself sort of like a telescope.  They needed my permission to repair this.  As it turns out, when this condition occurs the intestine has the blood supply cut off and begins to die at an increasingly rapid pace.  It can be fatal if too much of the intestine is damaged before it is caught.  Sophie was lucky they found it when they did.  She lost only a couple of inches, basically half of what was folded under.

I picked Sophie up that evening, well actually I showed up with her dog kennel.  Her Doctor carried her out to my car and put her in for us!  Yes, I said her Doctor did this and not because I asked for help.  This was like a mother cradling her own.  Maybe the scared look on both my wife and my face helped but non-the-less we were appreciative and impressed.  We had to take Sophie for an overnight stay at another location and then I brought her back by the next morning to Angel Animal Hospital for a quick check.

What a difference a night makes!  Sophie was already way better and HUNGRY!  She has not stopped eating since!!  We actually discussed this at a recent check-up as everyone agreed she might be on the verge of being to healthy in the appetite department!

We can never thank the entire TEAM at Angel Animal Hospital enough.  Sophie got her spark back and then some.  She is romping thru those 'terrible twos' chewing on all she can find, including my fingers when I don't pay attention!  To this day, a trip to Angel Animal Hospital for Sophie causes no stress, she actually looks forward to going as it always includes a lot of love from the staff.  Sophie loves to have her belly rubs and she gets about 5 per visit.  Like children, your pets are very good judges of people and Sophie absolutely adores the staff.  Everyone there has always been sweet and caring to her.  Ask yourself this, how many Vet's do you know that get down on the floor and really interact with your pet?  How may doctors, people or animal, do you know that follow-up not once, not twice, but four times over the course of two months to ensure everything is still going well?  The relationship is not just with the pet owner, it's with the patient.  I can't say enough about all of you, please keep up this great thing you do.  You saved Sophie's life.  Thank you for having such an amazing caring staff of people.  God Bless."
